ENGIE continues to fortify its commitment to its number one priority–workplace safety and health (WSH).

According to the Group’s 2021-2025 WSH action plan, the first area of prevention was defined as “No Life at Risk”. This objective aims to mitigate risks relating to the direct execution of activities and to prevent work accidents. Aligned with said objective, in 2022, ENGIE launched its Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Reporting Portal, a comprehensive online platform for anonymous reporting. The Portal is accessible by all ENGIE employees and stakeholders.

With the Portal, ENGIE enacts a shared-vigilance system by empowering employees and stakeholders to promptly and efficiently escalate safety concerns, potential risks and unsafe acts. Investigation is then delegated to site administrators and supervisors are engaged to follow up on reports, ensuring a closed loop and proper resolution in a timely manner.

The Portal also generates monthly statistics, allowing ENGIE to monitor WSH performance and identify trends. Targeted preventive actions are then implemented to safeguard employees. ENGIE managers have also been able to use the statistics to optimise safety management plans and successfully meet regulatory requirements.

In addition, the Portal is aligned with ENGIE’s anonymous whistleblowing policy. Employees and stakeholders can anonymously report non-compliance, without fear of retaliation, as reports are handled by a neutral, third-party service provider.

The Portal was recently featured by Singapore’s Workplace Safety & Health (WSH) Council during its launch event of the National WSH Campaign 2023. Presented by Yeo Kong Nee, Managing Director, ENGIE Services Singapore, ENGIE and the Portal are well-aligned with the campaign’s call to action–reporting saves lives.

In a feature by Singapore’s Channel 8 news, Tan Chai Soon, Deputy Managing Director & Head of Integrated Facilities Management, shared:

“ENGIE has a strong culture of safety and WSH compliance is systematically included across all levels, and even into KPIs at the management level. Our staff also feel comfortable making reports because of our strong anonymous whistleblowing policy. As a result of its simplicity and guaranteed confidentiality, the EHS Reporting Portal brought about a 125% increase in reporting for the period of January to April 2023 compared to the same period last year before its launch. Notably, since its implementation, there has been a significant 58% reduction in incidents observed from January to May 2023 compared to the same period last year.”

With the EHS Portal, ENGIE promotes a “see something, say something” culture. Its employees and stakeholders are encouraged to report safety concerns, and are empowered to do so.
